Why is this project so important to our mission
as a liberal arts college?

- The arts are key to a quality liberal arts experience—we expect students of all disciplines to develop an appreciation for the arts.
- The 40-year-old Gibson building is outdated. Our students and faculty desperately need rehearsal and practice space.
- The high school students we want to attract are seeking lively performing arts programs and opportunities to explore creative digital technologies. Sixty percent of our prospective students participate in music or drama as high school students and anticipate staying involved in college.
- An inviting and aesthetically pleasing facility will make a powerful statement about the value and integrity of the liberal arts experience available at Washington College.
- In building a regional cultural center, Washington College positions itself as an institution that values the arts, that fosters a sense of community with its neighbors, and that welcomes a new generation of financial supporters drawn to campus via the arts.
